About Claudia Perez
“Inside me language will always be a pretext for silence” (A. Pizarnik) I move between suggestion and evocation, away from reality and certainty. My work speaks about my silence. Women in my paintings are part of me and are barely a shadow. I expose myself and hide behind them. Presence, absence and escape. I fumble around. I play and get lost. There is no starting point, no clear destination, no method. One mistake, a sum of them, might produce something magic. For me, painting is an adventure, I am always a the edge of destruction. Everything is blurry, as if seen through a thick fog. Images are being replaced one with another, some transparent, some dense, veiling sometimes, covering at other times. One form is repeated obsessively in all my paintings, a solitary figure, who appears to be swallowed by the atmosphere, wrapped in herself. The core idea of my work lies on the process of constructing an image, on producing this image with my own hands, by adding color, altering it with water, letting accidents happen. I am moved by the emotional potential of an image, a line, a mark, a stain, yet stripped of any reference to reality. I could always do the same thing, somehow differently, always moved by my urgent need of finding beauty. CATALOGUE 2009 - 2010 http://www.blurb.com/books/2000305
