About Ian Viggars
I am an artist based in East London. I produce paintings and illustrations using various media, although I tend towards painting in acrylics on canvas. I work in a variety of styles but with an emphasis on the seemingly opposing extremes of pop art and abstract art. I favour bold bright colours and pastels and often use black outlines. I aim to create work that’s immediate, bold, and fun to look at. For a recent series of paintings I focused on simple pop paintings of everyday food items. These are represented as separate objects and viewed from above against a light blue background. I love the idea of reducing everyday meals to such bright simple designs and colours that they become almost childlike and abstract. I've been inspired to create a work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield, as well as more contemporary artists like Pete Fowler and Julian Opie.
