About Amy Hemingway
Amy Hemingway is a symbolist artist, working primarily from dreams and visions. She works intuitively in oils and charcoals. The paintings are often reminiscent of religious iconography, with complex symbolism and a striking presence. The mystic shamanism she has experienced in South Africa has impacted on her imagery, and broadened her range of understanding. Born in the UK, she studied Theology (Masters) at Oxford University. She worked as a Religion and Philosophy Tutor in Oxford, and as an Archaeological Illustrator for seven years, including one year in France. She currently lives and works in the Transkei region of South Africa. Five of her paintings are kept on permanent display at Regent's Park College, Oxford.
