Curated by Craig Cantrell
Grayling, United States
I was born in 1960 in Mt. Clemens Michigan. I was raised in a small town up the river from Detroit. I have always been fascinated by all the Freighters and boats that would go up and down the river.
I started drawing and doodling when I was young and did not pick up a paint brush until I was in my 30's. That's when I started to put my mind on canvas.
Because of my love for the shipping channels I went through some of my families old photos. I then came across photos of the Tashmoo, it was a steamship that went up and down the St. Clair Flats. My Grandmother, Grandfather and Uncle all worked on the Tashmoo. My father was raised on it for the first 7 years of his life. It sunk at it's dock on the Canadian side of St. Clair Flats.
When I was shown the Sepia style of Oil painting I enjoy it so much. Bringing those old photos to life. I feel this has become my forte to my painting.
