Through a visual investigation using maps as matrices, I compare two diverse landscapes to study the relationship between an environment and its effect on the individual. I actively excavate a landscape by utilizing reductive printmaking techniques and then construct an environmental product by layering the images using a wax medium. Images are buried and unearthed by digging into the surface, resulting in an abstract topographic portrait based on geologic features and the developmental footprint of society. The work implicates the influence of landscape over our identity while contrasting the visual aesthetic of a given geographic region.
