About The Artwork

What do you get when an outstanding composer is asked to create a piece of music that is "visually interesting," a seriously talented violinist records it and a visual artist depicts it note-for-note through a multi-media collage. You get "Letting Go," a one-of-a-kind work of art and product of a unique new visual/musical collaboration between artist Julie Friedberg, composer David Post and violinist Meredith Enzima Ramsay. Julie Friedberg is an artist living and working in New York City (Manhattan). Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media, Friedberg's work is informed by her love of geometric shapes, texture and the interplay of color and space. Her works range from egg images made of crushed painted egg shells on canvas to abstract acrylic works paying homage to Josef Albers and Chuck Close to her latest visual music art. In this latest work Julie incorporates her love of music (she is a classically trained pianist). A specific musical theme is depicted note-for-note through colorful, patterned hand-cut dots made of decoupage, handmade or hand-painted paper. Each dot is proportional in size to the length of the note it represents and is laid out on paper or canvas as if on a music staff. Triangles made of thread are sewn into the work to create a new visual dance. Friedberg received her BA from Brown University and holds a Masters in Education from Harvard University. She studied piano performance at Mannes College of Music and University of Toronto Faculty of Music. In addition to creating art, Friedberg coaches artists, entrepreneurs and leaders to unleash their creative and leadership potential.
