The installation 'Light Vessel' is responding to a metaphor of the church as a vessel carrying and nurturing people's spirits. The choice of the materials for the vessel also carries a symbolic significance. I have decided to use the salt crystals not only for the delicately beautiful visual effect but also its symbolic relation to the spirituality. Historically salt has long held an important place in religion and couture. Across different cultures and religions it has been used in purifying rituals(Judaism, Christianity, paganism(Greeks), to avoid and repel evil spirits(Buddhism, Catholicism), to purify ab area((Shinto religion), as a symbol of good luck(India) or as a symbol of friendship and hospitality(Arab countries, as well as in Europe). Due to its double existence =liquid to solid=solid to liquid, salt is also seen as the symbol of immortality and this is perhaps the reason behind the frequent appearance of it as a sacred substance. Consequently the method I am using to create the crystals is undertaken on the very principle of solid to liquid then by evaporation to solid(the crystals form and attach themselves to the string).

Through my work I touch on the subtle and intuitive part of life. Those things we all feel, go through and see all around us, often without giving them much notice, attention or importance. I am interested in exploring the connection and relationship between culture and nature and the human inner and outer experience within it. I use many different materials and means of creative expression (performance, film, sculpture and installation) and it is this concept that unites the whole body of work. Myths, folklore, fairytales as well as my life experiences and everyday observations all inform my practice. The materials and their combinations I use in my work often say more than one can see at the first sight. I carry out an extensive research into their symbolic meanings, connections and uses in culture. Symbolism is very important in my work as I believe that primal imagery and symbols hold a great power of communication which is understood by all people regardless of their language, nationality, age or education. I try to reach out to people on a subconscious and emotional level.
