The Unlocked series pays special attention to the concept of duality, the presence of which is inevitable in all spheres of life. The artist raises questions of what motivates a person during the process of the birth of ideas and wishes in the circumstances of a permanent transformation? To what extent is this process influenced by external obstacles to the formation of a person, or, in contrary, the absence of external interference is the very way to understand ourselves? This series is greatly inspired by works of the legendary video artist Nam June Paik and Katya reinforced her reflections based on his thoughts. Unlocked also shows the artist’s vivid interest and desire to experiment with production methods and materials. Her adoption of the sieve as a screen for the artworks represents an unusual solution that gives the viewer an opportunity to perceive differently a widely spread use of the lightboxes techniques.
