Dascha Esselius was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1953. She lives in Stockholm, Sweden since 1969. She began her artistic career under her maiden name Dagmar Jerabkova in 1973. She changed her name to Dascha Esselius by marriage in 1993, which she has kept even after her divorce in 2003.As an artist I work in the field of tension between the fantastic and the realistic. I am interested in the world around me and in social contexts, but also in exploring the inner landscape of the imagination and especially in the interaction between these two worlds. My artwork consists of films, photographs, sculptures and audiovisual installations, the last of which are almost immaterial, created by ever changing projections on thin transparent veils in dark rooms. I also work with public art as well as with research art projects with a view to health.
