OVERHEAD PROJECTIONThe artist Stephan Brenn (born in 1961) who lives in Cologne works basically with found materials. He either uses the materials as objets trouvs or for wall installations and little sculptures. Furthermore, Stephan Brenn illuminates found materials on buildings, on canvas in show cases and sets up installations all with use of the overhead projector. There are minimal changes during the performances and it is amazing how with new compositions formations appear with worthless waste material like deformed wires and pieces of broken glass.Stephan Brenn has been collected wire with different type of origin and deformation. His works so far are wire arrangements so called: wire drawings which look like material calligraphies on the wall. By now he works mainly with immaterial media in the field of reproduction. He works with pieces of glass from different origin for his projection. Such as ornamental pictures through applying several layers of glass on the overhead projector have been illuminated into moving illumination effects on the wall, on a canvas in a show room or in this case on the building faade Stapelbddsparken. The compositions are not still. The artist creates new choreographies and constitutes all along changing sceneries. In this extraordinary performance arise silhouettes but also colorful bright traces that appear on the building faade. These different end products are distillates educed over several steps, which outstrip through its poetic art type the poor primary materials. Thus ancestral mundane ethereal formations develop from rusty oddments of civilization. Of glass broken pieces arise aesthetic light transparencies.Stephan Brenn March 2009Stephan BrennStephan Brenn sammelt, beobachtet, erforscht, macht Kunst.
