My work is primarily concerned with drawing - from traditional pencil on paper to drawing with thread and light - and how seriality, repetition and variation play a part in my working practice. I am particularly interested in drawing within a contemporary context - not as sketching of an idea or representation of an object but rather an investigation into surface/ space, outline/ edge and mark/imprint. Recent research has involved considering drawing as a form of contact - investigating the relationship between gesture/ mark/ echo and looking at the marks and residues left by a touch or gesture. I am also interested in the relationship between digital and physical drawing. Much of my work is made using very fragile materials such as tracing paper and tissue paper but I also use more durable materials such as Perspex, polythene and fabric. Whilst my work can be viewed as individual pieces, I am particularly interested in connections made within and between work through installation and how the thought process of creating work changes and develops over a period of time. I am also interested in how exploration and thought are reflected through drawing and how encounter of work through exhibition or installation reflects the circular nature of contact between artist, audience and work.
