Each cross – whether fashioned by a hand vindictive or merely indifferent – is unique. ________________________________________ We see each other along these roads, some of us stumbling, some of us stronger than others. Have you encountered a stranger, name of Simon? I have heard of him, but he is unknown to me. Some, they say, welcome his curt help as he, just for a moment, shoulders the burden. Others shrug him off, neither needing nor wanting assistance. ________________________________________ We nod as we pass by, but often without much understanding. ________________________________________ For some – a lucky few – the way is almost easy. Their crosses, although sturdy, have been polished by some loving hand, the stones in the road almost smooth, rounded, easy on the feet.
