I live in a beautiful part of Thailand, so my art tells vivid and thought-provoking stories of my life, my land, and its people.

I’m in the process of painting a series of paintings for my Memories of Thailand Collection and adding to it all the time. A lot of the paintings go back to my early childhood when I worked in the rice fields and a little later driving a pick up truck round the villages in my area selling vegetables. later in life touring round Thailand which gave me lots of ideas to work on meeting some wonderful people.

This is a painting of the 100 year market not far from my home town and it’s still going, I love visiting the place, the noise, smells, the people selling their wears, the food stalls amazing place.

Although the 100 year market has obviously being going a long time, from time to time it is blessed by the Monks as Thais believe this brings good luck.

My thoughts when I was painting this was of such a blessing. The top right hand side is the entrance to the actual market, which is the part that was blessed by the Monks. The curtain of ribbons either side of the entrance would have been drawn back by the Monks and the Monks would add gold leaf on the boarding above the entrance for luck.

At the walk up to the market which is full of people coming and going also hawkers selling their wares, the rickshaw man having a snooze in his rickshaw.

I sit at a clean canvas, my imagination, oils, brushes, knife and fingers ready to start work, I have an idea, I start to paint, my head is telling my hands what to do, but sometimes my head changes so I delete and start again and so it goes until I’m happy with my work, then sometimes I use a palette knife to cover the whole canvas in random strokes and I see something like a photo an image and follow my feelings.

I get a lot of my inspiration from three artist; Claude Monet with his use of colour, his expressiveness, detail and the softness of his beautiful paintings, Vincent van Gogh with his bold use of colour his expressiveness, and I like to think I’m a little impulsive like him, and Lowry unbelievable he produced the work he did just using five colours.

My art tells stories, not always happy and joyful, not always bright and full of light, but always full of my feelings, vivid, interesting and thought-provoking. I always try to put something of myself in my paintings; in the form, the colours, the brush stokes, my feelings, my joy, sometimes my darkness but I hope mostly joy and happiness.

Ta Byrne is a Thai artist who lives and works on the beautiful island of Koh Samui, just off the south coast of Thailand. Her Oil Paintings . are vibrant, eye-catching and packed with a sense of fun and humour. Ta takes humans as her focal point in her Figurative Painting but abstracts these figures by distorting them and using a cartoonish style to create a more humorous feel. While her work is mostly representational, she incorporates Surrealist elements in many of her paintings, making her one of the most exciting artists working in Thailand today. Ta comes from humble beginnings, living out her childhood on the rural outskirts of Bangkok as a farmer's daughter. During her teen years, she worked sewing shirts in a Bangkok sweatshop, and it was during this time that she met an old street artist who invited her to his studio. This sparked her desire to become an artist, and since then, she has gone on to produce Abstract and Cubist paintings that have received international acclaim from art connoisseurs.
