Space…the final frontier! When imagining other worlds, space was the logical next step. Our galaxy is a mysterious place full of wonder and unexplained phenomena. I wondered what would happen if the natural laws of physics suddenly didn’t apply out there. Gravity Goes Awry is the result of these wonderings. If the sun’s gravity dramatically increased, what would happen to all the celestial bodies in its vicinity? Would they all just be sucked into the sun’s atmosphere to burn up and disappear? Would they cool down the sun’s atmosphere until it’s light and heat were extinguished plunging the solar system into darkness? Or maybe the sun just invited all its neighbors over for a big party celebrating the summer solstice. Iced sun tea anybody?

Kathy Ferguson is a mixed media artist living in New York City where she paints colorful abstract landscapes that are whimsical, richly layered, and complex.
