About The Artwork

The forest represents untouched nature but is also used for modern agriculture. For me the forest is a visual space where I can find traces of past times and memories but equally I can imagine that magic things might happen there. For many years I’ve not only been painting in my studio in town but also in a remote cottage in Mecklenburg. The wide, quiet country area in northern Germany where only few people live in small villages invites contemplation and I find a lot of inspiration for my work there. Wide fields and huge forests surround the cottage. I indulge in long tours through the landscape, watching animals and plants but also finding traces and remnants of a turbulent history. I have always been interested in traces and found objects that have their own particular histories. These traces are also apparent in the painting process through the layering of different materials and techniques; combining them in an associative way - like linking thoughts or ideas - gives the visitor space for their own reflections. Indeed, even in dense forest there can be an inviting path revealing open landscapes beyond.

www.blancke-dau.de You can find me on facebook: atelier ubede - visual artist, painter, printmaker, graphic artist. Crossing over paintings and photographs I have never accepted a limit to one technique. One part of my work is pure painting. Combining figurative parts with graphic lines and colors. Walking with my camera I use photographs as a documentary proof of what I have seen. Together with more freely painted impressions I try to find the essence of a certain place or atmosphere. For some time I do scribbles of figures and objects as graffities on walls of lost houses that bring back some kind of life to these forlorn places. Taking classical black and white photographs from them in that special surroundings the dimensions of time disappear. I thank all my friends for their trust and support to encourage me to go on on thart path to art.
