About The Artwork

This low light, and post autumnal setting, used to be my old cycle track through the forest near Loughborough, it offered an opportunity to escape and feel alone with nature. A chance to breath. My intentions with this painting was to enlighten and immerse the viewer into an environment in which they could explore. From the high up bare branches, to all the clumps of autumnal leaf litter on the ground, the tactile and impasto use of paint extenuates and arouses the senses, inviting the viewer to examine the painting at an intimate level as well encompass the space as a whole. Clarksons recent paintings intertwine the natural world with the nature of paint. These paintings offer the viewer a chance to immerse themselves into an unfamiliar place of wonder and fascination, whilst presenting a moment to pause and be inspired by the reality of our beautiful yet fragile 'One Planet' . Beneath the painted aesthetics, Clarksons practice echo's a sombre tone towards the shifting states of our planet, and how the cost of human intervention is impacting the natural balance of each ecosystem and the flora and fauna within it.
