Folk is enjoying a comeback. A kind of folklore that comes in many shapes and forms. A new love for nature: its majesty, its beauty and its savagery. The world is in a state of reorientation. Glaciers are melting, nuclear power stations are exploding, financial crises are rocking the economy. The inevitable reaction is a return to tangible values, a yearning for rural idyll and oneness with nature. A trend for DIY. The search for authenticity. Music now has the New Folk movement. These are mainly English-speaking musicians playing unusual or often highly traditional instruments, whose voices sound raw, fragile, rough-edged; the music plays with the notion of dilettantism, intentionally mixing the unconventional with the familiar. Storytelling forms part of the tradition of country and blues of past decades. The melodies are catchy and have a fragile beauty to them. They convey an atmosphere, a new love for nature. New Folk lives in the city, has rural nuances, but is not necessarily moral. The lyrics, covers, tour posters, magazine cuttings and songs serve as samples and intentions.
