About The Artwork

On the painting is a pop-art image of Queen Beatrix and Queen Maxima visible, en profile and en face, at the bottom the text 'Reina'. Used meterials are oil on linen, two silver ovals are applicated. A contemporary tale of the Royal Dutch family, Queen Mother and her Argentine daughter-in-law Maxima, the wife of King Willem Alexander. The woman plays an important role in the royal family . The painting is part of the series of striped paintings 'Canon of Dutch History'. ABOUT the artist her work: Hester van Dapperen explores new ways, she uses the refined and raw material in layers of which the artwork consists, instead of hiding the materials below the surface of the image, all materials are visibly used.
Her inspiration she finds nearby her painting studio, in Amsterdam.
The paintings often have a subliminal contemporary social message. My desire is that my paintings be a resting place, a mirror of discovery in which the viewer finds several aspects can reveal themselves. THE ARTIST:
“In my paintings I am fascinated by the human in motion as a reflection of modern contemporary life. I often work for years with a concept; in which new nuances arise. As I was a fashion designer before being a contemporary artist, many of my paintings have traces of fashion and textile additions. The role of the material used is also important. My favourite carrier for the paintings is fabric in different quality’s. It helps to create an effect of roughness or fragility, depth in texture and shadows.
I like to use transparent layers, textile additions like patchwork, holes, cuts and sutures, embroidery. By making paint with pigments, the tone of the color can be surprisingly deeper, more intense, shiny or mat.” She has for over ten years her own Gallery-Studio in Amsterdam, which can be visited by appointment. Her paintings are regularly exhibited, she sells and gets commissions for her paintings and occasionally commissions for statues, her work is also collected abroad.
