About the Artist

Lia Melia
Cambridge, South East England, United Kingdom

I had a wonderful teacher who taught me that no matter how technically good an artist is, if they do not paint from the heart and soul, they say nothing. I paint because I have to, and from the heart....

Iliana Tosheva This is a powerful image, Lia! I 'see' it though as an abyss I would be both tempted and scared to look into; it makes me think of free falling, amazing effect!!!

Gail de Cordova This is a very dynamic and gesturalpiece with a sense of drama - teh colours are earthy and beautiful

Pavel Lefterov "And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost" (Acts)

Mighty work - the winged Spirit, the Cross, the Triumph, the Suffering - everithing is in just one "X"...

Lia Melia Thank you all of you for your penetrating comments. Thank you, young Pavel, for instinctively knowing "where I was coming from"; all three works are linked in their themes of betrayal, regeneration and spiritual renewal; Easter is an appropriate time of the year to rediscover those themes.

The disciples were given the gift of tongues, and of prophecy; the only footnote I would add.

Richard T Scott Very befitting title.
One of the elements I think works particularly well is the reticulation on the right hand side: the small dots of varying values and sizes. They contrast with the mark making on the left to convey a sense of transition. And visually, the form serves as a visual metaphor for the phoenix. Great piece!

Lia Melia Richard; you help me understand my own painting! By considering your comments I can understand with my mind what I expressed with my heart; thank you so much for your comment.
