About The Artwork

In life there are many choices to make, and the sum of them set a direction. Some people take a journey deep into their Ego, others towards their Soul. Reality is just an illusion, a reflection of the direction we chose to take. This painting is the story of Moira, who left her old self behind to live her true nature and purpose. Her journey is just at the beginning, and it seems so hard at times, because her beliefs and her past keep coming back. But little by little, step after step she’s letting it go, and she’s finally coming back home.

My art is about exploring and exposing the Human Being in its wholeness and complexity: what we can see, like the way a person looks, and what’s underneath, like a person’s story and emotions, her dreams, hopes and fears. For me each painting represents a deep journey into the labyrinth of conflicts, fears and stories that exist in most people’s mind, and also an intimate dive into the beauty of a person’s Soul, where her talents and dreams live. My process is a combination of logic, intuition and imagination, and it also involves going beyond what I’m rationally and consciously aware of, so the colours can fill the canvas from that space too. Depending on how much I’m able to let go of my need to control the process and my urge to give a visual form and meaning to what I’m painting, the final piece can come in the form of a portrait or an abstract work, or a mix of both. During the process, a lot of what is usually hidden in my subconscious comes to the surface. And although this makes it really challenging to understand where the line between what I’m painting and myself is, it also gives me a great opportunity for self-discovery and self-revelation. I work in acrylics. The way they melt together and allow me to paint different layers very quickly works organically with my creative process. I usually finish a painting by adding random splats of colour. These represent the uniqueness in every person. This also creates an adrenaline rush from the knowledge that I could ruin a good work in just a few seconds.
