About The Artwork

Abstract, expressive painting with turquoise and rusty orange over two canvases, each 90x70 cm. This diptych is part of the Cosmopolitan Paintings series, which is also available here, and investigates the relationship between architecture and geography. Being something of a cultural nomad and avid traveler this is a topic I'm very interested in. Both canvases are all painted around the edges allowing to be hung easily and without extra framing.

BIO: Svenja Bary was born in the U.S.A., raised in northern Germany and southern Spain, and visited the University in Hamburg before setting off to explore the globe and gather impressions from around the world. These days, she lives between Morocco and Hamburg.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Caught between the duality of nature — the light and its shadows — life is a quest for the fleeting divide, the "chiaroscuro". Inspiration is in free-fall, torn between fear and hope, sparking the sub-consciousness to create a story-line and visual support. This elevates art to the realm of magic for it depends on its beholder, and only through him/her/they is an image verified.

Art is a many faced process, and my body of work is a reflection on the symbiosis of the two worlds we live between; the "material" and the as yet not “manifested".
MOTTO: I have no country, no language and no creed, but when I lift my voice the world is my home.
