View of a shopping arcade somewhere in Italy. Time-distressed walls with graffiti elements. It’s late afternoon.
Although there is no traffic one feels afraid of crossing the road and the light give contradicting signals.

We are often afraid to make our own decisions and simply await the instruction from our parents, bosses or authorities. We choose to obey rather than show initiative even when the instructions are contradictory.

Martin began with watercolour illustrations of interiors. In the early 1990s, he worked for a number of London designers, creating interior design presentations. He subsequently began to incorporate aspects of "the unexpected" that were hidden in some corner, book shelf, or wardrobe. The otherwise uninteresting, factual drawings gained artistic merit. Martin's particular style contains elements from several artistic styles, although Urban Realism appears to be the predominant influence on his use of colour, composition, line texture, and shape. Martin appears to capture the essence of the movement through his work by presenting harsh and barren spaces that often give a sense of despair and loneliness. These aspects, together with the use of colour, composition, line texture, and shape, provide the observer with a compelling and thought-provoking visual experience. Overall, Martin's paintings offer a fresh and emotional look at the urban landscape and the human condition inside it. He has produced a distinct style that resonates with viewers and invites them to reflect (and question) the world around them. Martin employs his expertise in visual storytelling to create stories that the audience can interpret. The story can be based on true events, myths, fables, or something completely fictitious. He uses a combination of images, symbols, and colours to create a visual language that the audience can understand (even though the interpretations can be deeply subjective). Martin's painting reflects the elusive beauty and mystery of the world around us, which is often overlooked or unseen; it is hidden in plain sight. Extensive travel stimulates the creative urge and expands the imagination. It serves as a new source of inspiration and fosters creativity. Discovering new ideas and notions stems from visiting culturally diverse countries and meeting new people. Despite his British citizenship, Martin is proud of his global vision and identity that transcends national boundaries and culture. He feels a connection with individuals from all around the world and cherishes diversity and multiculturalism. A true libertarian at heart. Martin's personality traits include thoughtfulness and introspection. He appreciates humour and is skilled at sarcasm and irony. Critical thinker with an insatiable need to question everything.
