About The Artwork

"Let Me Shake Your Snowglobe" 48 x 36" acrylic, ink, and holographic glitter on canvas 2013 Blake Brasher This is a heavily layered composition of acrylic paint, pigment based inks, and holographic glitter on stretched canvas. "Let Me Shake Your Snowglobe" had a somewhat difficult birth, having started months before I finally decided it was finished. I became so frustrated with it that at one point I poured watered down white acrylic paint mixed with clear acrylic medium over the painting and spread it over the entire surface with a pallet knife. The textured surface of the under-painting shows through and I scraped the white paint away in places as it was drying, revealing hints of the colors underneath. This was like a new breath of life into the painting, and the composition resolved itself quickly afterward. I applied inks and paint squeezed from a tube into the thick wet paint, encouraging some colors to spread and others to mingle. I sprayed some areas with water and encouraged puddles to form. The pools of inky black have holographic glitter spread over them and I used black ink to manipulate the surface tension, pushing glitter around and coaxing it to form clumps and gather around edges. "Let Me Shake Your Snowglobe" is painted on a high quality 3/4" profile gallery wrapped canvas. There are some drips on the edges of the canvas, but I think they are nice. If they bother you, you can put a frame around it, but I think we should not be painting the edges because you never know, maybe in the future someone will want to see those drippy edges.
