About The Artwork
This title is derived from poly, (from Greek polloi “many,”) + chrome, (from Greek khroma “color”) + nesia (from Greek nesos “island”). Each painting of this series is worked on from every side so that the finished art may be rotated as desired, much like an actual map. With tropical blasts of color, textural topography, and imaginary views and journey lines surrounding the “islands” this series is an ode to Australian Aboriginal Papunya painting, Javanese batiks, Japanese screen painting, Chinese literati brushwork, and Google Earth. note: canvas sides are also fully painted thus this painting should not be framed.
