Alternative Identity Photograph

Interrogating Identity: ‘Alternative Identity’ The Images produced within this project is showing how images and objects can interrogate and manipulate identity and is the key aspect within these photographs. There are many objects that could be been used to look at the idea of identity and to project a surreal outcome. The object used within these images was the ventriloquist dummy as it plays a good role with the idea of identity and creating alternative personalities. This Project is all about capturing this element of performance between the ventriloquist and doll he uses. This doll is what the performer uses to create this alternative identities and the time period that was most popular was back in the 1920s and was always seen within comedy performances and shows. This perception has changed through time, even though this has not been concentrated on within this project the audience viewing it will take the perceptions of idea and almost alter the intentions of the project which makes the photographs individual towards everyone viewing them. The doll is the key aspect to the images and holds the element of the identity and also this idea of control which is represented within the sequences of images. The main idea behind these images is that the photographs need to project that the doll is showing an alternative identity to the one that is projected within performance as if it has a mind of its own and i think showing this adds atmosphere and helps links the two perceptions of the ventriloquist doll together and also the past and present. The presentation of these images and making them into a sequence of images is what this project needs to create a strong outcome for the concept. The layout of the images represents this idea of photographs being with a sequence and almost appearing as a film still which has this direct link back to the idea of performance which is something both captured in the presentation and context. This collection of images are strong but i think with the use of text it helps makes the concept more clear to the viwer which is very imprtant as the more the audience understand the bigger the impact which is what needs to be achieved within these images. There were many details that were thought about when constructiong these photographs such as the doll used is a replica from an orginal ventriloquist doll from the 1920s which is very important for the context and then to link to the fact even more the text used is from the orginal script that the doll performed in within the 1920s. This links both the presention and the concept perfectly.
