About The Artwork

In this series, I want to capture the atmosphere of the meditation, and want to depict the portraits of monks and nuns seated in the dim light with “let go” in mind. I spend many time to persuade the leading monk permited me to shooting the meditation. I also took part in the meditation with the monks before shooting. As a Buddhist monk do religious meditation,he often close eyes. Close eyes, he looks into his inside. End time meditating, the monk opened his eyes, as the look at the real life which is happening. Dharma begined from the life and it come back to serve life. I took the front and behind of each monk, as two faces of every body. The mystery part, exposed part , and the monks has the third eye- Buddist understanding. This serise were taken at Tay Thien Zen monasteries (North Vietnam), one of the great monastery of Truc Lam Zen-by King Tran Nhan Tong (VN) established on October, 1299, at Yen Tu mountain of Quang Ninh province, North Viet Nam. King Tran Nhan Tong combined many Zen systems as Khuong Tang Ho, Galuxi, Vo Ngon Thong in China, to a Truc Lam Zen, which was pure Vietnamese Zen. Now the Truc Lam Zen system is the largest VN monks, beside Buddist disciple work at home are nearly 50,000 people. After shooting, I've done interviews with the monks- who is subject in my pictures- the reasons leave one’s home, and significance of Buddhism to the individual, practice meditation. Then, I captured some image of their daily life, expand the project with about 50 images. This is the third project in the big topic "Dharma and Life" about the life of monks, which I carried out many years, part 1 and part 2 had exhibited in 2006, 2008 in Vietnam. I think photography as a means to express my attitude to social life. I love to capture desicide moments and respect the natural sunlight. I do not like using the computer software to interfere much in picture.. Because the reality was very fantasy.
