About The Artwork

Limited edition (1/10), printed on Canson Rag Photographique 310g, with Digigraphie authenticated certificate (numbered, signed by the artist) 45cm x 45cm limited edition 10 100 cm x 100 cm limited edition 5 Polish Folk Costumes Where the history combines with mystic solemnities there appear beings which exist between walking and sleeping. You do not know exactly what is real. Whether the person you see in the pictures is real or not, whether the costumes are real or not and if you close and then open your eyes again, you do not know whether the figures in the pictures are still there. The pictures present original Polish folk costumes from different regions of Poland. The costumes were treated as formal clothes and were not worn every day. Polish folklore has been an inspiration for many authors, but at the same time many people claim that one should not handle with it and name folklore trumpery or kitsch. “Monidło is a type of a realistic painting based on the photograph of the bridegroom. The pictures usually featured a black and white photograph, with the lips painted red, eyes painted blue and other spots retouched. At times an expensive-looking attire was also added to the picture. First appearing in 19th century Poland, it was a cheaper alternative to traditional portraits popular among the higher strata of the society. Because of its relatively moderate price, the monidło style paintings became very popular among common people, notably the peasants. The period following the World War II saw a decline in this form of art and to some the term monidło is synonymous to kitsch. ” - www.wikipedia.org

Michał Giedrojć, age group 1980 (Faculty of Multimedia Communication at the University of Arts in Poznan ), artist-photographer from Poland. In my works I give you the possibility to get to know my visions, my perception of world, the unreal world.y main subject has been a human being.. My photos represent my own, subjective look on specific person and on the world. There is no objectivity or attempt to present the real character of the people who stand in front of my camera. Most of my works are based on graphically manipulated images like in a Dream Serie. The world shown in my photographes is a subjective vision filtered by my sensitivity.its a series of portraits - photo montage where author puts people in unreal places. Situation presented in photographs have never happened and were only created by imagination and dreams. Person is isolated from reality with the imaginary world around him. The author freely transposes a person between two different worlds as if one tried to adapt to them. The Dreams series shows an individual tangled up in a conflict between what is realistic and what constitutes the author's imagination on the subject of a particular scene. Persons who are photographed do not feel comfortable in the surrounding in which the author puts them, they make the impression of being alienated, asking the question about their situation in that place - whether it is their own dream or maybe the author's?
