About The Artwork

In this series called ‘Deodorants Games’, each photograph takes its’ title from car air fresheners found on the market. The fragrance notion is not just connected to the world of smells and the deodorant industry, but to the subjective idea of generating our own value as a brand. Deodorants, by serving to project to others a personal desire according to a reflexive idea of oneself, are a constitutive form of good which one could consider part of our self-branding. Within Deodorants Games, the object-sculptures I create are haunted by the idea of possible being. The analogies of body parts in these objects symbolize the fetish, which posits rather the absence of the body.

A born collector from south of Spain, Antonio first started 'camera snapping' as stylist. As a visual artist based in London for more than 15 years, and with a background in Fine Art, he brings together a range of interdisciplinary skills, from sculpture to making but always resulting in photography. Recipient of the Sproxton Award for best work of his graduating year, Antonio completed his MA in Photography, at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts in 2011. He was selected as one of the UK's new emerging artists at the London Art Fair with Catlin Art Guide 2012, and was then chosen to exhibit in Saatchi's New Sensations Exhibition in 2012, which run alongside London's Frieze Art Fair. He went on to win the first prize for Absolut Vodka's Blank commision, continuing in their legacy of artists they sponsor to create a unique artwork for their iconic brand. Antonio was given his first solo show at Damien Hirst's Gallery Other Criteria, London. Which ran during the Autumn 2012, followed by 'Brush It In', a group show at Flowers East Gallery, London in October. Antonio has dedicated the first part of 2013 creating a series of new work from his studio in London.
