My first encounter with photography came from my uncle, who speculated that a photograph tells a tale; it shows a single second, caught in the blink of an eye, preserving and protecting an aspect of the world we live in forever. Originally, I am from Paris, yet over the past decade I have lived and worked in some of the most interesting places on the planet, each with a different perception on life and each provoking new ideas. As a photographer, your senses become constantly tuned to the subject that interests you. Educated in the United Kingdom, where your cultural and political stance makes a serious statement regarding your character, but exposed to ideas from around the world, I was fortunate enough to perceive these variances from the periphery. It was through these experiences that I began to look for the frequently humorous and questionable incongruities in the world. Over the past decade, I have been increasingly attracted to the paradoxes and contrasts between what you see and what you get. This field of interest revolves predominantly around political and cultural conflicts and through the medium of photography, I try to communicate the raw psychology of the ironic world we live in. My inspirations comes from artists such as Mike Leigh, David LaChapelle and Darren Aronofsky all of whom, I believe express some part of the often brutal reality in the subject they are capturing. Art in any form does one of two things. It either communicates a message from the creator or evokes an emotion with the interpreter. However, the choice always lies with the artist, the choice being whether they wish their art to be more subjective or objective. Many critics would argue that art should always be a reflection of the artist's true self. I agree that the form and the way in which it is presented should always be as unique as possible, for that is how opinions and ideas are developed. Yet, the implication of the art should try to present an argument, whereby the viewer can understand and be familiar with the subject that is being exhibited.
