About The Artwork

This series is a homage to the people of the Omo river valley. It is a wild place filled with abundant flowers, plants and berries which the people use to transform themselves into ephemeral creatures of extraordinary beauty. These assemblages are made using blown eggs, dried botanicals, bones and found objects. The boxes are covered with various hand made papers and protected with glass. Each box is signed, dated and ready to hang.

To me the act of making art is an exploration, an effort to try to understand, to solve a small piece of the unsolvable puzzle. Experience is the teacher and whether the experience is evocative, whimsical or dramatic, it shapes the way I view our world. Using the egg as a symbol of beginning a starting point, these visual meditations attempt to bring permanence, of a sort, to the ephemeral. I live and work in Portland Oregon.
