"Gourds" were made with handmade japanese papers. The inspiration for this piece came from gourds that I saw at Japanese shrines in Tokyo.

Lucinda Vandenieuwegiessen was born in Montreal, Quebec. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Education from The University of Toronto. While living in Japan from 1995 to 2002, she became very interested in Japanese handmade papers and has been making collages with them ever since. Her collages evolve from many different influences and experiences (i.e., nature, line drawings, works by Eva Hesse).
