About The Artwork

Embrace is a 2-Part Sculpture joined with 3 brass rods Green with Brown Striations 1st sculpt – 8"w x 3"d x 16"t 2nd sculpt – 8"w x 5" d x 15 1/2" t Base – 9" x 12" black granite Embrace is for inside installation Embrace is one of the Tranquil Series of Sculptures. It joins other sculptures that include: Cherish, Kanryuu, Ookawa, Ptolmey1, Secure, Shizukesa, Taihei 1, and Taihei 2. Embrace is about the differences and similarities that bind us as couples and lovers. Two different stones bonded together by promises (the brass rods - by metaphor the wedding band). The two stones are as much different as similar. Similar colors, somewhat similar overall design. Like couples, one is taller the other shorter - just like in life. They are as one. This is an intimate sculpture about relationships. Embrace is closely related to Cherish and Secure. About the Tranquil Series The series, Motion, Striving, & Music are about the ability of stone to move or be in motion. The Tranquil Series is just the opposite - it is the ability to be still or quiet. These sculptures are quiet but joyous works that do not have to shout to gain attention. They exist. They just are. Carl Wright is an award-winning sculptor and gallery owner. Carl studied art at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, & Frostburg State University. He received a Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree from Shepherd University with focus on Fine Arts in 1996. In 1988 he co-founded the WSG Gallery , a gallery focused on sculpture, painting & fine art. He is represented by three galleries & select art consultants. Some sculpture highlights are: a sculpture in a biotech headquarters in Durham, NC, a sculpture in a Fortune 500 Executives' home in Zug Switzerland, exterior sculpture in the prestigious Northshore Sculpture Park, an exterior sculpture at the Courthouse Galleries in Portsmouth, VA from Feb. 2011 to Nov. 2011, permanent installation in Charlotte, NC & Mount Dora, FL & a temporary installation in Rockville, MD from May 2013 - Oct. 2013. He has participated in seven Public Art Exhibitions, participated in 11 gallery shows & six juried museum shows. Carl shows his love of shape, color, texture, & storytelling by carving abstract stone sculptures that can be divided into five different themes. These themes are: the Music Series, the Striving Series, the Motion Series, the Tranquil Series, & the Exuberant Series. The Music, Tranquil & Exuberant Series are his series on uplifting life-affirming topics such as tranquility, emotional bonds, & how music knits together the tapestry of life. These sculptures give a respite from the day's work & are a singular joy to be around. The Striving & Motion Series are more reflective of the hurly-burly environment that most commuters & workers encounter in their day to day environment. These sculptures reflect themes of busyness, constant motion & moving towards professional/career goals.
