About Ian Robinson
My practice is situated within the enthusiasts’ world of collecting, and my interest is in the back-stories of the collections themselves. Influence has been taken by researching in museums from objects that portray some hidden characteristics of the collectors’ self-identity. Focus is made on details that uncover the care and passion seen within key items. I set out to subsume and reveal qualities in the ‘stuff’ we accumulate, by translation into painting. My painting practice is about detail and texture and character; the intensity of meaning in our accumulation of obsolescent material things.
