As an artist what feeds my art making process is my interest in the human condition. For the last 14 I have cultivated a diverse artistic practice using a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, fabric, collage, site specific installations, photography, video, illustration and mural painting. My art making process is an activity where I explore the intersections between the personal and the political, cultural and human thoughts and conditions. Like most artists I am restless and I use the visual arts as a tool to redirect reflections of myself and the world I inhabit within the framework of questioning the social relations between the individual and society, using formal aspects of the art making to engage the viewer in a visual conversation.
Recurrent themes and imagery include visual expressions of identity, migration, alienation, history, war and believes. For the last several years I have been working with a theme whose title has evolved into Immortal Conversations. With this series of works I address social and philosophical issues of life with a critical eye using words, phrases, as content of a potential conversation that engages the viewer. Focusing on words, I am particularly interested in creating a space for the viewer to wonder, explore, interpret, be provoked or find purpose and meaning in the issues we face. Through conversation we connect meaningfully. What is the shared experience? I am interested in the role of art in the search for meaning in life.
