Anna Tomaszewska

Fibre Artist, Conservator/Restorer, Art Historian, Art Advisor/Consultant.

My works are organic in their character. There is no restriction on the use of materials: working from scratch with the raw materials (flax, silk, cotton and wool); often dyeing and spinning the yarns according to the needs. The subjects are based on my personal feelings and experiences. Thus, the works become very intimate. Each work has its own personal story to tell.

In Stockholm I had my own studio and worked actively as a fibre artist / textile conservator/restorer and as art historian/art advisor/art consultant.

Based in England since 1993.

1976-1980 Poland, Warsaw - Tutored privately in the subject of Weaving and Fiber Art. My mentor in the field of fibre art was the artist Nina Rudzińska member of the Association of Polish Artists of Applied Arts, the wife of Professor Witold Rudziński with whom the Tomaszewski's family were befriended. The meetings, discussions and time spent with Nina Rudzińska created a base for my artistic creativity, whilst I also continued my education in the subject in the Department of Weaving at the Youth Palace which was part of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.

In 1981 I moved to Sweden where I continued to expand my practical knowledge in textile studies at the renowned school Handarbetets Vanner Vävskola and Stockholms Läns Hemslojdsforening. In Stockhom I also took the degree in Master of Arts with Major in History of Art at Stockholms Universitet, and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Marketing at IHM Business School.

Whilst the studies in Poland focused on letting the imagination run free with no limits, in Sweden the education was focused mainly on technique. It was an excellent combination. The study circle was complete.
