Gerald Horn

Growing up in Detroit when cars were king, I wanted to be an artist; but I joined the millwright union like the rest of my family. I was the guy doodling with leftover automotive paint during my breaks. Unable to settle into factory work, I moved to New York City. There I discovered a world of paint besides automotive. In the early 1970's I made scale model sculptures for Tony Smith as I was interpreting Pythagorean musical proportions into my painting. My paintings have been shown at O.K. Harris Gallery, NYC and other national and international venues.
Art making for me is marking, pushing things around until there is an acceptable believable presence. It's a conversation between the physicality of the canvas; and the colors and shapes of the marks. (See Vimeo link below)
One can think of my art as poetry, sound and painted ideas. Colors, textures & shapes have a slowed down reading: paint space reading & a paint space time.
As a digital artist & painter, I look at what ideas and visual structures can be created and implemented in the physical realm they occupy. Whether abstract or representational, whether painting, photography or digital the process remains intact.
