Thodoris Tzalavras

Born in Athens, Greece in 1978.

After studying, teaching and working with different aspects of applied photography for over ten years, in 2006 I decided to start working full time on personal long-term photo projects. I have a fine art approach in my photography and, though I am drawn to things that are visually interesting, I require my subject matter to be meaningful in addition to aesthetically pleasing. I aim to capture in my work what I perceive as the essence of my subjects and I am using and perfecting my technical skills as to better help me to this end.

These days I live in Nicosia, Cyprus.

I would divide my inspirations into two basic categories.
Technique and aesthetics (read Ansel Adams) and Content (read Eugene Smith.)

I consider myself a Fine Art photographer as far as the weight I put into the technical aspects of my craft, but-besides my landscape work--my main interest in subject matter has more to do with social commentary and documentary than anything else.

Degree in Photography from Leica Academy, Athens in 1998.
From 1998 works as a freelance photographer and graphic designer in Greece and Cyprus.
Taught photography at a Public Elementary School in Athens (2000-2002).
[2002 2003: Mandatory service in the Greek Army].
Since 2006 working on long-term personal photo-projects.
Currently based in Nicosia, Cyprus.
