I paint under my original name O’Malley prior to adoption as there was already an established artist with my name. Plus I like to think my original name lends a more artisan ring.
I was taught to paint by my grandfather a cartoonist for the the Morning Star, back in the day. After drawing lessons he got me onto oil painting at age 9. I was taught to keep all work loose and veer away from fine brushes until the very end. Art was to be spontaneous and free, not exercise In neurosis.
After a couple of exhibitions 12 years ago I took a break, apart from a few private commissions. I tend to paint just about anything portraits landscapes but favour cityscapes. Love to get and and about with travel easel and paint plein air where possible. I grew up in Brighton and used to see people out and about with easels and would love to see this trend come back. I’m an oil fan and use no other medium , it’s a texture thing.
