I paint to express myself and escape myself. It’s only through this shamanistic practice that is known as art that I am able to leave behind the self and become one with my canvas. I rarely visualize what a painting may become before I begin, refusing to place any traditional rules or barriers on what may occur in the process of gestation. It feels as if mercury is running through my hands, a complete stream of consciousness. While I fear the loss of control I also embrace it whole heartedly, knowing any other method would be unthinkable. Although my paintings may at times appear as if created in some fever dream, they are concurrently of this world and another, the spiritual and physical coinciding with one another.
