I value the gestural mark, the traces of the human hand in artwork, imperfection and pieces that seek to involve the viewer, requiring them to complete the piece before them. My themes vary widely, wherever my soul, or my nose, takes me.
My work is always starts with sketches and studies. I enjoy working with a subject and exploring it repeatedly in multiple pieces that vary in scale and media as a way of challenging my own perception and preconceived notions. I hope the viewer of these also has an experience of renewal and fresh ways of looking.
My education has been cobbled together from many experiences, marked by never having really graduated from anywhere, starting with leaving high school to move to Seattle to study briefly at Cornish Institute. Thereafter - the Factory of Visual Art, University of Washington, The Evergreen State College provided pieces of formal education. Experiences such as studying with various Japanese calligraphy masters, assisting renowned environmental sculptors, and mounting shows while living in Italy were perhaps as important to my development.
Some mural installations (sort of on-going exhibitions). Pictures of these and others on my website (see link). Include:
• Nordstrom NYC Flagship - Hani Pacific Mural; installed 10/2019; 65' digital undersea fantasy
• Google South Lake Union (Seattle) - BlueBill; two story interior linework mural; 12/2019
• Starbucks - 'Heritage mural'; Chicago Jazz mural; Mid-Century Beat; and others (All featured worldwide in large format reproductions; years vary from 1996 - 2009)
