Jason Zahn

Jason Zahn (b. 1979) is an American contemporary abstract painter living and working outside of Baltimore, Maryland.

His paintings begin as something felt before it can be explained—closer to an internal poem, expressed outwardly, than a fixed idea.

Using paint to move that feeling outward- translating it into marks, color, and surface, the process is less about illustrating a subject and more about balancing control and instinct. This allows the work to retain its initial energy without being overworked. There is no starting concept for the work; the path is made by walking the path.

His work centers around the moment when something private becomes shareable—when a personal response takes on a form others can enter. The paintings don’t aim to prescribe meaning; they create space for it to emerge.

Zahn also uses poetry and writing in the process, as either a catalyst for, or response to his work.
