Pragya Bhargava

I am a visual artist, researcher and educator based in India. My practice invests in notions of the unknown or forgotten, landscape, cosmos and the threads between beings, objects and phenomenon. I investigate interrelatedness, at the intersections of time and space, to focus on when and how change occurs to create new knowledge and how it can be influenced. With a background in Physics, I have a strong interest in understanding the fundamental nature of things using both artistic and scientific methods of questioning to create new connections about known and unknown things.
With these intentions and questions in mind, I find material translations and methods of making. I work with drawing, painting, photography and social practice. In my practice, anachronistic elements represent time and distance to form alternate realities, pose questions and offer answers to what if? Marks, lines, patterns of drawing are integral to my works as they create a constellation of reasoning and ideas; the tangibility of paints, mediums and surfaces lend materiality to the research, hypothesis and conjectures; photography and collaging are important to relate to the world; finally, people are the key to giving the works a place in the world beyond a ...
