Hélène Couturier is a multidisciplinary artist who writes often "romans noirs" and paints often "white cows".
"I have always written:novels, press articles and screenplays. I write “Roman noir”. I publish at Rivages Noir, the publisher who introduced James Ellroy and Denis Lehanne to France. I have also made documentaries with subjects as different as rap, accordion, bison, Lebanon, Knut Hansum or Philippe Stark. I have always painted. But it’s only in 2020 that I have decided to focus on the Cow and show my work to the public.
Why cows?
I come from the South of France, a place where the Cow stays in the barn while the Bull parades. My artistic work came from the lack of the Cow.
Today, I tease the current single thought that tends to moralize everything, including art. I engage myself happily, diverting this ambient machismo that has praised the bull since antiquity !
Strong as a Bull, fat as a Cow!
As for writing or painting, I am self-taught.
My only training is my passion for art.
I spend my time reading, discovering authors and exploring galleries and exhibitions.
In writing I have a passion for William Faulkner.
In painting I have a passion for Mark Rothko.
