Precious Chibuike Ukaegbu

Precious Chibuike Ukaegbu (b. 1998, Lagos, Nigeria) is a multidisciplinary artist of Igbo descent. His visual art practice mainly explores the themes of memory, time, and identity.
His series of mixed media creations, “Sands of Time,” which he depicts using a range of media including acrylic, paper, cardboard, fabric, oil pastels, dry paint appliqué, and ink, with cardboard being the symbolic medium, are set within textured spaces located in contemporary abstraction, in particular, the overlapping planes of abstract expressionism and impressionism. These textured placements of colours create a multisensorial and multidimensional canvas surface showcasing whimsical and colourful depictions of the mundane. He also critiques notions of the imperialist ideologies of the Igbo identity through his series “Colonial Intersections,” infusing sociocultural elements to tell these stories.
In April 2023, he completed his apprenticeship at the Ovuomaroro Studio of prestigious Nigerian artist Prof Bruce Onobrakpeya, where he learned innovative techniques in Printmaking.
