Mary Claire Griffin

Mary Claire Griffin is a Chicago-based artist and photographer highly influenced by minimalism and surrealism. She has a background in visual merchandising, which lends itself to her exploration of composition in her images. Her current works of self-portraiture seek to challenge perceptions of identity and space, using her body in real time with the constraints of her environment to create thought-provoking illusions. She is interested in the interplay of lines, pattern, and color, as well as relationships between the body, found objects, and perspective. Her work strives to turn a viewer’s head with surreal decontextualization, so they might also contemplate the photographic process itself.
