Jens Van Bommel

Jens van Bommel is a Munich-based visual artist who creates large-scale paintings and mixed-media works that blend his background in theatre painting with contemporary urban and natural motifs. After a long career as head scenic painter at major German theatres, he founded Atelier van Bommel to pursue his independent practice. His works often capture Munich cityscapes, Bavarian landmarks, and imaginative compositions, marked by strong contrasts, layered textures, and symbolic depth.

Trained as a theatre painter and later Head of Scenic Painting at leading German theatres, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the National Theatre in Weimar, and others. Over two decades of experience in large-scale painting, stage design, and traditional techniques form the foundation of his current artistic practice.
