Born in 1950 in Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia.

Maja Ilic has been fond of art since childhood. She grew up in an artistic environment and had great support from her parents in learning how to appreciate art. This has helped her understand and love art to this very day. During the most difficult time in my life, Maja confessed, when I thought all had come to an end, when I could see no way to a better tomorrow, I had something to share my situation and feelings with. That something was paper, pencil and my metal plates, and from them I drew enough strength for me to survive. In her work Maja focuses on pure symbolism of content and form (the trinity, quadrangle, numbers as symbolism) and symbolism of things in nature (birds of prey, poppy fields, leaves, etc.). It is the invisible in nature which is her inspiration. Maja has recently started transposing her graphic inspiration into photography.

It has been said that art is the harmony of life. Maja Ilic adds to this: Harmony of life and NATURE. Life and art are one and they cannot be separated.

Maja Ilic graduated from the Sarajevo Art Academy in former Yugoslavia where she attended the Department of Graphic Art. She went on to specialise in graphic art (the influence of modern technology on gravure printing) and costume design at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

She has had several individual exhibitions in former Yugoslavia and The Netherlands. She has also participated in many group exhibitions in a number of countries, including the former Yugoslavia and The Netherlands. Her work was selected for the Bienale in Cadaques - Spain,Bienale de Trace, Paris - France, Mini Print in Iowa USA, Woreld Trade Center,Brussel- Belgie,Internatonal grafik Manifestatie, Nagele The Netherlands
Trade Center.

Maja's work is selected and published in the book The world Art collection ,
