Art gives energy, joy and purpose to life, allowing for alternate views of reality to emerge and the mind to process experience in a playful and intuitive context.

I have been painting for over twenty years and am somewhat self-taught as I chose to focus my academic study on philosophy rather than art. I believe that philosophers such as Derrida, Ricoeur, Kristeva, Irigaray and Foucault have influenced my playful approach to art; I focus on bringing the otherness of unconsciousness into my work – to allow the margins to speak and readily acknowledge the interplay of the audience as the collaborator in determining the meaning of my work.

I use a variety of media when painting, including gold leaf, Farrow and Ball paints and Cornelissen & Son pigments to create my own unique materials. I tend to paint quickly to keep my art spontaneous but I also rework paintings as I enjoy creating depth and texture within them. In typical Foucault fashion I refuse to define myself as any specific type of painter and acknowledge the many artists who give me inspiration and courage to paint.
