Patterns in nature, architecture, and layers of paint on surfaces are my inspiration. Transparency allows the viewer to see the past and present combined at once, as each layer allows exposure to the underlying construction.
Time is therefore expressed in these layers of shapes. Instead of experiencing time in a linear way, as a narrative to be read left to right, bottom to top or top down, I look at time condensed and compressed like a double exposure photograph where one picture is taken on top of another. The end result allows multiple moments to appear at once. It’s as if one is looking through peeled back layers to reveal other stages of development. I respect the process of discovery and beauty of the materials as my work continues to parallel my life.

Originally from Massachusetts where she received her BFA from Mass. College of Art and Design she then received a scholarship to attend Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, where she had the honor of studying with Joseph Campbell and Agnes Martin. Shortly after, in 1989, she was the recipient of the Mass. Artist Foundation Fellowship in Sculpture and was a Finalist in Painting. Lynda’s work and interview with Julie Karabenick are posted on the international forum Geoform.net. Her work is included in The Art of Encaustic Painting by Joanne Mattera. Lynda has exhibited her work throughout the United States. Her work was included in a traveling museum exhibition; Swept Away: Translucence, Transparence, Transcendence in Contemporary Encaustic, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, MA. Curator: Michael Giaquinto which traveled to The Hunterdon Museum in Clinton, NJ.
