Renming Cheng

In 2003, a new artform, Digital Painting was launched in Norway and it was soon called Digitalism. These paintings shown here are made by Norwegian artist Renming Cheng with the help of computer software. Cheng is the first artist in Europe to launch Digital Painting and had his one man exhibition in a public cultural centre.

In 2003 more than 40 Digital Paintings were shown to the public Sola Culture Centre in Stavanger, Norway for the first time. Since then Cheng and others in the new digital art movement have been active in Europe and their motive is to change the landscape of art in Europe.

Cheng is a Chinese artist living in Norway. Having worked as businessman, journalist, teacher, guide, business consultant, freelance writer, and finally artist, he always finds the environment hostile and life challenging. Cheng was unemployed for many years in Norway after 11 years of university education. He had never studied art before but all of a sudden he started to have art exhibitions in Norway, England and France, including twice at the prestigious Oslo City Hall Gallery. Cheng was educated at University of Sichuan and University of Oslo. He has had a variety of professions: journalism, business, English teaching, fine art and creative writing.
